The Teacher

Lama Samten, Tibetan Buddhist Monk will guide this Retreat.

Lama Samten was born near Lhasa, Tibet, in 1965. He began his monastic studies in Tibet at Gajang Monastery and was ordained as a monk at the age of fifteen. He fled to India when he was 20 to continue his studies of Buddhist Philosophy at Gajang Monastery reestablished in Mundgod located in South India, which hosts today 2000 monks. In 1997, he accepted an invitation to visit the province of Quebec, and in 1999, agreed to settle in Chicoutimi. His goal is to share the Buddha’s teaching about meditation with all who are interested. He founded in 2003 Paramita Centre in Quebec, which extended since its activities in France and Toronto.

The Retreat

The teachings are following the same tradition as H.H. Dalaï-Lama on how to attain calm-abiding mind according to Buddhist philosophy teachings. It is well known that the primary purpose of the Buddha's teaching is to attain happiness of enlightenment by practicing two forms of meditation : concentration meditation and analytical meditation. The first aims at achieving calm-abiding (samatha), while the second aims to gaining special insight (vipashyana).

Our calm-abiding meditation sessions are meant for beginners as well as for more advanced meditators. Although our groups are mostly made up of first-time meditators, there are also those who have already practiced meditation and are seeking another technique. There are as well those who wish to take the course for the second or third time in order to improve their meditative skills. In this retreat are given all the fundamental elements necessary to attain calm-abiding according to Buddha's teachings : the preparations, the posture, the necessary conditions, the hindrances and how to overcome them, etc.

Spots are limited, so book early to guarantee yours. We will take approximatively 1 hour 30 for lunch time.

The contribution for the retreat: 125$

Because we limit the number of the participants so we will not be able to make refunds if you like to cancel only 10 days before the event.
